What does Paradise look like?

Would you believe it could be right across the street? On the other side of Lincoln Boulevard?

The animals of Paradise are not always obvious. To most of us, they are hiding in plain sight. Only a trained eye could spot the Grey Fox blending so perfectly with the earth under the bushes where he is sleeping. The Burrowing Owl goes into a burrow during the daytime. And, of course, birds often fly away when humans approach.

In case you have not been able to get a good look for yourself, the life within Ballona Wetlands Ecological Preserve is more spectacular than anyone could imagine. California has lost more than 90 percent of its coastal wetlands to parking lots, housing developments, shopping malls. If we don't save our species, who will save us?

Click on the next page for a small sampling. If you'd like to see more, take a look at each of the pages in this section. They are by no means even half complete. But they show why Ballona is worth saving!
